Using Web Resources

The internet/web is an important source of information.  In general, information available on the internet is not regulated or reviewed for accuracy or quality.  It is the responsibility of the reader to evaluate the information  If you use webpages for your research, remember that you must judge them more critically than sources you find in the library.  The following checklist may be helpful.  You can always ask a Librarian for help in evaluating sources.

Web Searching Tips

To find information on ethical statistical reporting try using an organization's name  or a current event and keywords such as fraud, misleading, etc.  For example:

  • Planned Parenthood statistics misleading
  • Immigration statistics misleading
  • Hate crimes statistics dishonest

Or you might want to try investigating

  • The Sarbanes Oxley Act
