Odd Boy Out by

This BCCB Blue Ribbon Award winner for nonfiction focuses on Einstein's hard-to-classify brilliance which left him a misunderstood outsider as often as it led him to scientific discoveries. The muted pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations depict a doubtful, somewhat unhappy-looking child who is often marginalized on the sidelines of the drawings. Because of these illustrations and the focus on Einstein's childhood and "oddness" that followed him to adulthood, young readers will be sure to identify with Einstein as a person rather than a mad scientist, a feat his contemporaries had significantly more trouble with.
