New Found Land by Allan Wolf (Illustrator)Call Number: PZ7 .W8185513 Ne 2004
This novel, presenting the events of Lewis and Clark's famous expedition, uses alternating narratives to share the viewpoints of many oft he expeditions participants. Lewis' dog, called Oolum in this novel, serves as the omniscent narrator. Factual information abounds in this fictionalized account, as do discussions of freedom on many levels, stemming from the slave that Clark brings along and the kidnapped Shoshone girl, Sacagawea, who is being used as a guide. Closing notes by the author explain the literary liberties he took while writing, making it clear where fact is fact and fiction is fiction.
